#39: Bridge Café
The building at 279 Water Street in Manhattan, New York, has been serving New Yorkers in one way or another since 1794, whether as a bar, a brothel, or a grocery store. The establishment that has leased the building most recently is Bridge Café. Bridge Café moved in in 1979 and served those with more refined tastes until its closure.

When Hurricane Sandy landed on the eastern seaboard in the fall of 2012, 279 Water Street was damaged, causing a temporary closure to Bridge Café. A “temporary” closure that has lasted ten years and counting.
