#6: Huyler’s
Owning a candy factory is almost every little kid’s dream. John Seys Huyler made that dream come true for himself. Little did anyone know that the same John Huyler who made soft candies out of his father’s shop when he was young would eventually grow up to be a major candy maker and restauranteur who would be remembered for the legacy he left.

That legacy included 54 stores and more than a dozen candy factories. Not to mention the distinction of being one of America’s most prominent chocolatiers of his time. Huyler’s kept the fine folks of New York full of tasty sweets for nearly 100 years before going defunct in 1964.
