Kenneth Arnold and the Mount Rainier Sighting
The individual who coined the phrase “flying saucer” must have a compelling tale to tell. In 1947, pilot Kenneth Arnold spotted something strange in the sky, and everything changed. According to Arnold, he saw nine odd saucer-shaped objects near Mount Rainier in Washington.
Because he had so much experience as a trained pilot, he described the incident in technical terms that gave him an air of authenticity. He stated that it occurred during the afternoon when he was flying through clear skies when he saw the other strange aircraft.
