Fill’er Up
Free refills are so commonplace in the U.S. that most of us take it for granted. If anything, it’s weird when we get charged to refill our coffee or soft drink at a restaurant. Turns out, free drink refills are not really a thing outside of the U.S.
The concept of the free refill is so novel to non-Americans that it has become tied in with their concept of American culture. While we let the (non-alcoholic) drinks flow freely over here, many other countries charge, and some places even charge a fee for water. France has even outlawed free refills of soda and other sugary drinks.
