Tea Time
Americans have a different kitchen setup than most Europeans. One of the most obvious differences is the use of electric kettles, or lack thereof. Electric kettles are so commonplace in Europe that people are surprised to learn that very few Americans use them to heat up water. There’s actually a very good reason for this difference.

The main reason Americans mostly use stovetop kettles is that the U.S. uses lower voltage than in the UK and Europe. An electric kettle plugged into an American electric socket won’t warm up the water as fast because of the lower amount of power. We also don’t have to have switches on our sockets for that same reason.
