50 Photos and Facts That Prove Australia is Like Nowhere Else

December 17, 2015 by Veronica Phillips

Australia is special for many reasons. For starters, it’s the only place in the world that’s a continent, a country, and an island all in one. From gorgeous beaches to the desert, from “The Outback” to “The Bush,” from the snow-capped peaks of the Australian Alps to the metropolitan cities of Sydney and Melbourne, from the Kangaroo to the Quokka, Australia has it all. Not convinced? Here are 50 photos that prove just how unique the “Land Down Under” is!

They Have Big Lizards

When we say big, we mean absolutely ginormous! This may look like a scene from a horror movie but in Australia, it’s just another day and just another lizard. You can find five families of lizards in Australia including skinks, dragons, geckos, flap-footed lizards, and this guy who is a lace monitor lizard.

Apparently, they can get as big as 6 and a half feet long and are as heavy as 30 pounds. Imagine casually walking up to your home only to come face to face with that. Not fun! We wonder how they managed to shoo the not-so-little guy away…
