Roman Mosaic
Renovations are part of a homeowner’s life. When this couple decided to transform their barn into a table tennis room, however, they didn’t expect to come across a piece of history. Electricians working on the room discovered antique pieces of mosaic almost 18 inches below the surface.
The couple had no idea what they were looking at so they contacted archaeologists who determined that the flooring was used between AD 175 to AD 220 as the flooring of a villa. Upon further inspection, the team also found Bronze Age pottery, a Neolithic flint head, Iron Age pottery, as well as Roman pottery. What a historical find!
