Nuclear Fallout Shelter
It’s every couple’s dream to buy a home but what this California duo didn’t realize was that their home had a special feature: a perfectly preserved 1960s nuclear fallout shelter. Accessible via a 15-foot ladder and located 15 feet below ground level, the shelter was built by nuclear engineer Alvin Kaufman to protect his family in case of a nuclear attack by the USSR.
The shelter remains a time capsule of sorts with all kinds of vintage items the engineer thought his family would need to survive. These include food tins, beverages, kitchen supplies like Saran Wrap, books to read, sleeping meds, a bedpan, and first aid essentials. It’s like he thought of everything!
