#35: Eating Elegantly
Have any of you ever done an etiquette dinner? I’ve done them as youth activities at church and school. These are activities where you have a nice meal while someone explains which fork to use and what to do with your napkin after you’ve used it, so that you don’t embarrass yourself the first time you go out to a nice dinner with your boss or your fiancé’s parents.
To this day, I still use things I learned at etiquette dinners. And what’s mentioned in this post happens to be one of the things that I remember! In the USA, it’s polite to switch your fork from hand to hand when you need your dominant hand available to cut something. In Europe, it’s common (though not universal) to keep the fork in your non-dominant hand the whole time. I hope my boss and my fiancé’s parents are impressed with my cool dining etiquette knowledge.
