#43: Comparison Is the Thief of Joy
Ads comparing a product to another product are ubiquitous in the USA. In fact, some of the most famous ad campaigns, like the Pepsi challenge, rely completely on direct comparison with another product. So I was surprised to learn that it’s not done in other places.
With a lot of products or businesses, though, which have one clear rival, I bet it’s really obvious who “Brand X” is. I mean, if the Pepsi challenge had been a taste test between Pepsi and “another leading cola brand,” I don’t think anyone would have been fooled.
