#9: Politics and Piety
In America and many other parts of the world, religion is still a major part of the lives of a good-sized portion of the population; it’s woven into a lot of culture and ideas. So of course a politician on the campaign trail may bring up religion if it helps his or her campaign.
In other parts of the world, this is not nearly so common, either because religion has less influence there or because it’s just a societal norm that it’s not something that politicians should talk about. I wonder if people in those places are also baffled that our national motto is “In God We Trust.”
