Night of The Living Dead
Night of The Living Dead is considered to be the granddaddy of modern-day zombie films. While it wasn’t the first, it generated enough buzz around the sub-genre that led to an influx of zombie movies at the time. Night of The Living Dead is so popular that, in 1999, it was preserved in the National Film Registry.
The filmmakers only had $114,000 to work on the movie. Since the movie was in black and white, audiences couldn’t see that the fake blood splattered on the zombies’ faces was actually chocolate syrup. Even the flesh that was falling off the zombies was donated by one of the actors, who just happened to own a butcher shop. In the end, Night of the Living Dead made over $18 million globally.
