Halloween
Halloween was the movie that popularized slasher flicks. It stands among the highest-earning indie films in history, even though it was produced on a measly budget of just $300,000. One way to save money was by using a Steadicam to avoid using expensive tracks and dollies when shooting moving shots.
And the horrifying, nightmare-inducing mask that Michael Myers sported in the film? It was a painted Captain Kirk mask that cost all but $2 to make. In the end, Halloween would rake in over $255.5 million. Not too shabby for a crew who were unsure whether Jamie Lee Curtis’ $100 wardrobe for the entire film was worth the cost.
