El Mariachi
One of the most significant achievements in the history of the independent cinema industry is undoubtedly El Mariachi. It’s a movie about mistaken identity, which leads a group of assassins to go on the hunt for an innocent singer, and Robert Rodriguez is the one in charge of directing the narrative.
Due to its cultural and historical importance, the Library of Congress decided to conserve El Mariachi as part of the National Film Registry in 2011. In addition, the movie has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records as having the smallest budget of any movie that has ever made $1 million at the box office. It was made with just $7,225 ($200,000 in post-production) and made $2 million.
