Catfish
Catfish was a tremendously successful movie that had hardly any money to work with in the beginning. It raked in over $3.5 million at the box office with an investment of less than $30,000. The movie was so successful that MTV purchased the license to create a spin-off series that, like the movie, was an instant hit.
The 2010 documentary film followed Nev who was in pursuit of a woman he had met on Facebook. It was also credited for coining the term “catfishing,” which many of us have fallen for. The movie was received well by critics and holds an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (not that anyone cares about RT nowadays).
