Dwight D. Eisenhower
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States and the first future president to play for a varsity team. While attending West Point, he was infatuated with baseball. It came to the point that when he considered not being chosen to play for his school’s baseball team to be his greatest disappointment.
However, he made the varsity football team and starred as a running back and linebacker. It was during his first year on the team that he made his most impressive play of all—tackling future Carlisle Indians’ Jim Thorpe. However, after sustaining a knee injury, he stayed away from contact sports and focused on fencing and gymnastics.
