Italienne A La Fontaine Doesn’t Like To Smile
William-Adolphe Bouguereau might be a French academic painter, but he is not only famous in France. He is also pretty well-known in the United States. Because of painting in a traditional academic style, his works were always exhibited at the annual exhibitions of the Paris Salon for his entire working life. One of his best works was the Italienne a la Fontaine.
In this painting, a young woman is seen at a fountain to fetch water. The art style used here is already commendable, but Varkey still found a way to turn this into something relatable. He just added a mask and a witty caption that says, “Biggest perk of wearing the mask – not having to smile at people.” I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel the same way.
