Some Heart Did Break
Aside from being an English painter, Walter Langley has also founded the Newlyn School of plein air artists. The subjects of his paintings were typically Cornish fishermen and their families, which can be seen from his painting, Never Morning Wore to Evening but Some Heart Did Break. The title of this painting was from the Tennyson poem ‘In Memoriam A. H. H’.

In this painting, you can see an old woman that is comforting a crying young woman, which by the title, is assumed to have her heart broken. However, the whole story changed when Varkey decided to put a conversation between the two. What makes this even funnier is that it is so true, even as I’m writing this, my back is also hurting.
