Conservation Programs that Help Kids Connect with Nature

January 17, 2021 by Jesse Olson

Many conservation programs help kids connect with nature all over the world. From groups and camps to events that are hosted by conservationist groups to help bring awareness to nature and how the world works.

Today we’re featuring some of the more popular conservation programs that will help kids, and adults, learn more about nature and feel connected to it. Getting kids to understand nature and be involved is more than heading to a local zoo or drive-thru safari. It’s about truly connecting with nature and learning more about it.

Here are just of the many conservation programs that will do just that, allow kids to connect with nature in a fun, engaging, and educational manner.

Be Out There

The National Wildlife Foundation runs Be Out There, a conservation program for kids. You’ll find your outdoor activities promoted with this foundation. They have Geocache Trails and activities that help get parents outside with their kids enjoying nature.

REI Family Adventure Program

This program also focuses on getting families outdoors with a resource of hiking trails, and outdoor school courses. If you’re a biking family, this conservation program can lead you towards some local bike trails to enjoy, as well.

Sierra Club Outdoors

You’ll need to find your local chapter of Sierra Club Outdoors to find out what they offer for conservation programs that help kids connect with nature. Each chapter offers different activities but most include skiing, paddle-boarding, bird-watching, and other conservation orientated activities for kids and parents.

Ocean Guardian Classrooms

This conservation program that helps kids connect with nature focuses on marine life. They even offer a way for parents, who live in California, to get certified and introduce this to local schools. Your kids can learn how to be involved with local watersheds and help preserve marine life.

Let’s G.O. !

Run by the Children and Network Nature,  Let’s G.O. ! is a fabulous conservation program that helps kids connect with nature. This program combines play, community service, and fun to help kids understand more about nature and what they can do to help preserve the environment.

National Wildlife Federation

Lastly, the National Wildlife Federation has a variety of programs that help foster and nourish a child’s love of nature. When you opt to help your child be part of their Certified Wildlife Habitat program, you’re saying yes to raising a child with much awareness of the world around them. This will help your child grow up to continuously be involved in projects and groups that help protect our environment.

These are just some of the many conservation programs that help kids connect with nature around the world. We hope you’ll take a moment to review each of these programs to find one that fits your family schedule best, and has an option to participate in your local area.
