Testing your baking powder and soda
When was the last time you purchased baking soda? We’re guessing some time before lockdown, right? Baking powder generally has a shelf life of up to 12 months after opening, and baking soda can last up to two years. However, if you’re unsure whether your baking ingredients are still good, here’s a quick way to test.
Pour a spoon of baking soda into a glass of boiling water and vinegar. As for baking powder, just use boiling water. If they create a bubbling reaction, they’ve still got some life in them. The more “violent” the bubbling, the more alive the powders are.
