Get Out
Sometimes the best things come from the people you least expect. Jordan Peele, better known for Key & Peele, wrote and directed this masterpiece of a horror film. Get Out takes on a slightly different angle of horror as it throws racism into the mix. The film sets out in a normal fashion, boyfriend comes home to meet girlfriend’s family, what could possibly go wrong?
Swahili, the language mostly spoken on the east coast of Africa, is referenced a few times in this film. The song “Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga” plays repeatedly throughout the film. Translated to “Listen to the ancestors”, the song has lines such as “run far away” as well as “save yourself”, which sound like dead giveaways. This is about the time where you would kick yourself for only knowing to speak one language.
