Fight Club
If you haven’t seen Fight Club – David Fincher’s 22-year-old film, then that’s on you, because we’re about to drop a big spoiler. Brad Pitt’s character, Tyler Durden, doesn’t really exist in the film (insert head explosion now). The Narrator, played by Edward Norton, creates Brad Pitt as a figment of his imagination. When watching the film, it is easy for the audience to pick up on the hints pointing to Durden’s not-so-real existence.
One example of when the illusiveness of Brad Pitt’s character shattered was during a scene when The Narrator and his girlfriend, played by Helena Bonham Carter, are walking past a movie theatre advertising the film Seven Years in Tibet, famously starring Brad Pitt. This Easter egg hints at the fact that real-life Brad Pitt exists in this world. Is it possible that Edward Norton’s character simply created his angsty, violent alter-ego in the image of real-life Brad Pitt?
