#37: An Uncanny Performance
Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for portraying Stephen Hawking in the 2015 film The Theory of Everything. But what did Stephen Hawking himself think of the rendition? Good news: he loved Eddie’s performance! Stephen emailed the film’s director, James Marsh, to praise Eddie’s portrayal of his life. There were points in the film where Stephen felt he was watching himself on screen!
Is there any other praise higher than that? We don’t think so! Before seeing the final product, Stephen Hawking was pretty involved in the making of the film. He let the filmmakers use his copyrighted voice throughout the movie. Also, he lent them his Companion of Honour medal and his signed thesis to use as genuine props. Imagine how cool it was for Eddie Redmayne and the other people on set to see those items in real life!
