There’s a fine line between being a helicopter parent and running your home like a prison. Security systems are supposed to protect your home from intruders. They’re not designed for parents to spy on and dictate their childrens’ every action down to the second. Also, fun fact: schools don’t let kids out early to get home to do the dishes. If a kiddo has chores and does them when they get home, awesome.

If they’re a few minutes late because of the bus (or because classes aren’t done until a certain time) they shouldn’t be punished for it. Unfortunately, some parents just don’t get it. Instead, they find ways to punish kids for not being able to adhere to the parent’s schedule!
