Johnny English?
Some people were destined to work a particular job. Oddly enough, there’s a term for such a phenomenon: aptronym. It means someone a name that matches the person’s occupation, usually in a funny way. For instance, there’s Les McBurney the firefighter, Usain Bolt the Olympic sprinter, and Johnny Sins the… sinner.
But what do you call it when someone’s name is the total opposite of what they do? Mr. English, the foreign language teacher? Well, English is a foreign language to most of the world, so maybe it’s not as ironic as we think. Could someone please give Mr. English the foreign language teacher a real sign?
