Bereaved employee
Losing a parent is devastating, especially at a relatively young age. Grief is a tricky beast and, while some people seem to brush it off and get back on with life, others take much longer to process what has happened. Work tends not to be high up on their priority scale.
While it was kind of this company to give their employee some compassionate leave, their lack of empathy now he’s back shows them up as not great people to work for. Sure, a little bit of encouragement toward his targets would have been fine, but firing him is pretty harsh.
