Not Your Crown
If there are no polemics, it’s not a real Beauty Pageant. As every year, Miss Universe is eventful and covered by critics. This year R’Bonney Gabriel has become the first Filipina American to be crowned Miss Universe. Although Filipinos are over the moon with the representation, part of the internet expressed dissatisfaction about it, and the pageant has been accused of fraud.
On Twitter, people argued about a “biological” man assuming control of a women’s pageant. They alleged that Anne Jakrajutatip, the new owner of the international competition who is a Thai millionaire transgender person, has given an advantage to Miss USA. And that the crown should have been given to Amanda Dudamel, Miss Venezuela. The accusations have become even more evident after R’Bonney announced her resignation from her Miss USA title.
