Takeoff’s Death
Even if you are not familiar with the current hip-hop scene, you probably heard about the rap trio Migos. Formed by Quavo, Takeoff and Offset, the group made their debut in 2008 with their famous song ”Bad and Boujee”. Sadly, Takeoff passed away earlier this month after suffering a fatal shot at a nightclub. The rappers death sparked a conversation about hip-hop and its association with violent gang culture.
While many people claim that talking about violence and the African-American struggles is a key part of hip-hop, others support the idea that this wasn’t always the case. Some internet users even claimed that this sort of comment is somewhat prejudicial, since white musicians have also produced songs around violent and gang-centered themes. What’s your take? Is rap in its current form detrimental to Black culture?
