#48: The Titanic Catastrophe
On 14 April 1912, the unsinkable Titanic met its fate. Colliding with an iceberg 400 miles off Newfoundland, it plunged underwater in just two hours and minutes minutes. Out of 2,200 souls aboard, a mere 706 survived the disaster.

A devastating fire might have sealed the Titanic’s fate before it even struck the iceberg. The blaze weakened the ship’s hull, allowing the iceberg’s impact to tear through it like paper, inundating compartments with water, ultimately dooming the vessel.
