How do Pellet Stoves Work

October 12, 2021 by Sarah Barber

Pellet Stoves are gaining in popularity as people become more concerned about reducing their carbon footprint.

The Pellet Stove was first patented in England by David E. Mayer in the late 1970s, but it has only gained widespread use over the last decade or so. The pellet stove is designed to hold compressed sawdust pellets, and they burn exactly like wood pellets.

They work much in the same way as a traditional stove, but instead of smoke and ash coming out the bottom of the unit, pellets simply fall to the ground where they are harmlessly extinguished.

Pellet Stoves are gaining in popularity as people become more concerned about reducing their carbon footprint. The pellet stove is designed to hold compressed sawdust pellets, and they burn exactly like wood pellets.

The pellet stove works much in the same way as a traditional stove, but instead of smoke and ash coming out the bottom of the unit, pellets simply fall to the ground where they are harmlessly extinguished.

When building a pellet stove, an ash pan is usually installed below the burning area. The pellets are fed into the fire through a small opening, where they are quickly burned up and turned into carbon dioxide.

A fan then pulls in the fresh air that is heated by the pellet stove, which is mixed with the clean exhaust to feedback into the burning chamber. This is called the ‘circulating principle’, and it ensures that all of the pellets are used up completely, rather than some simply falling to the ground where they will eventually be wasted.

Benefits of Using a Pellet Stove

Below is a list of the amazing benefits of using a pellet stove to heat your home this year:

  • Less expensive than other heating sources.
  • Reduces air pollution and your carbon footprint.
  • Give back to the environment by using a stove that’s sustainable.
  • Reduce stress about energy bills each month with less expensive utility bills.

I hope that this article on how pellet stoves work and the benefits of having one has helped you in making your decision to use one of these stoves to heat your home.
