#18: Back to Basics
The holidays are when brands really pull out all the stops with their advertising. This 1990 ad for Jim Beam plays into many people’s ideas of tradition and the holidays. It shows a musical timeline of different Christmas albums, from the classic Bing Crosby to an album titled “Punk Christmas.”

The timeline eventually circles back to good ole Bing Crosby. The idea behind this ad is, “You always come back to the basics.” You can venture out and drink new, unique holiday libations, but there’s nothing like some good old-fashioned Jim Beam whiskey bourbon. How quaint. Even if you love change and progress, there’s no denying that some people love the allure and comfort of the status quo.
