Okay, tech support guys. This isn’t cool. Well, it’s not cool from the standpoint of those who are being ridiculed, but we totally get where you’re coming from. It turns out that if you’re put on mute while speaking with tech support, odds are that the guy who’s supposed to help you is laughing at you along with his work buddies.

Or, which is the likelier case, they’re asking their peers for instructions on how to help you overcome whatever problem you’re facing. Tech support usually has a script to help their customers deal with the most common problems. If you’re facing something out of the ordinary or completely solvable on your own, you’re going to get the mute treatment.
