#30: Jackie Joyner-Kersee: The Heptathlon Champ
Jackie Joyner-Kersee made a name for herself as one of the greatest athletes of all time during her career in track and field. She is particularly celebrated for her accomplishments in the long jump and the heptathlon, which is a combined contest made up of seven different events. She’s won six Olympic medals, and won the heptathlon in the two consecutive Olympic Games of 1988 and 1992. Dang.
On top of all that, Joyner-Kersee set a women’s heptathlon world record by earning a whopping 7,291 points at the 1988 Seoul Games. That record remains unbroken to this day. She has gone on to do a lot of charity work. She founded her own foundation that helps at-risk kids and has recently partnered with Comcast to make internet access more readily available to the underprivileged.
