#2: Bonnie Blair: Skating to Success
Bonnie Blair might be retired today, but fans will always remember her as one of the greatest speed skaters of her time, and one of the most accomplished Olympic athletes in history (or should we say – herstory – in the spirit of the article). During her career as a speed skater, Blair has competed in four Olympic Games, winning five Gold medals and one Bronze.
Unlike ice skating, in speed skating, competitors are required to race on the ice – making the sport a lot more competitive. Blair retired in 1995, but she hasn’t stopped influencing and inspiring people. After retiring from the sport, she became a motivational speaker, and today she’s an ambassador for the Right to Play non-profit organization, that empowers underprivileged children through sports.
