#40: Hilary Knight: Moving Hockey Forward
Hilary Knight stands out in the often-ignored sport of women’s hockey. She has won three Olympic medals so far in her career, on top of several world championships. Knight played forward for Team USA at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 2018, leading them to their first victory in over 15 years. She’s made ice hockey her life’s work in more ways than one.
She’s made huge efforts to professionalize the sport of women’s ice hockey and has spearheaded an effort to establish a North American women’s ice hockey league that is equitable and pays players a living wage. She’s raised awareness of the paltry salaries professional women hockey players make, and hopes to further the sport through her involvement with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association.
