Salt lakes in the Bay Area
Those who take to the skies over the Bay Area will undoubtedly have seen these colorful objects from above. As for this person, who was traveling over San Francisco for the first time, he was astounded to see such colorful patterns from several hundred feet in the air. Are they toxic lakes, or is someone growing a vast field of daisies?
None of the above. These are actually salt lakes in the Bay Area. The water starts off in a murky-green lake, which then flows into a yellow-hued lake with higher salt content. The lake water ultimately finds its way into the pinkish lakes with the highest concentration of salt.
