Is Digging for Oil OK for the Environment

November 4, 2021 by Hadar

It’s no secret that some of the world’s largest oil companies are in the Arctic region. With climate change threatening our way of life, is it possible to balance protecting the environment while still extracting fossil fuels?

One thing is clear; time is running out. We all know about global warming and what carbon emissions can do to us. But the sad part is that we haven’t done anything about it. Global warming has caused Arctic ice to melt at a faster rate than expected and as such, fossil fuel companies cannot ignore this new source of crude oil.

There were reports that Shell Oil Company was given permission to drill in the Alaska Chukchi Sea for both oil and natural gas. Despite all of the rhetoric that climate change is real, fossil fuel companies that want to drill for more oil in the arctic are just looking out for their bottom line.

This begs the question: Will we ever be able to balance protecting our environment and our way of life by finding new sources of crude oil?

In conclusion, climate change is not a myth and we need to do more to protect our planet. If we don’t, then soon enough; there won’t be an earth for us to live on.
