Surviving Lighting
If you are outside during a thunderstorm and your hair starts to stand on end and or your skin starts to tingle, prepare for lightning to strike. It can happen fast and it can strike anywhere. It’s not something we often think about (for obvious reasons), and we think it’s never going to happen to us, but it’s important to know what to do in case something like this happens.
When you feel lighting is about to strike, crouch down low to the ground. Lighting is going to hit the first thing it comes into contact with, which will be an object higher up. Make sure you cover your ears tightly to keep your hearing intact even after the loud boom of thunder that will follow. Also keep your heels together, this way the lightning has a chance of going through one foot and out the other, instead of traveling through your entire body.
