Whatchu Doin’?
When you think about ancient civilizations, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that humans were humans. That means they had a sense of humor, even though we think of them as super-serious gladiators who slaughtered each other for the entertainment of kings, queens, and common folks.
Apparently, ancient times weren’t all warfare, plagues, and grief, which was fortunate for the people who lived at the time! We’re guessing the stonemason who created these steps had a good sense of humor. The stairwell in front of the Abbey of Sainte Foy in France, which is what is pictured above, was built around 1050.
