“Allied Business Professional”
Technically, your friend isn’t a lawyer. Unless your friend has passed the BAR exam, they’re not allowed to legally represent anyone in court other than themselves. So, calling you or your friend non-lawyers probably isn’t all that bad, and it shouldn’t be something that drives you up the wall. Maybe step back and take a breath for a minute.

However, we do understand where this is coming from. Why would anyone call anybody a non-something? In that case, we’re non-CEOs, non-astronauts, non-NBA-players, and every non-anything under the sun. But under no circumstance are we going to refer to you as an “allied business professional.” That’s just weird.
