#47: Am I Colorblind?
I keep looking for the number in this Ishihara test, but I can’t find it! Have I lost my ability to see specific colors?! Ha, no. This is just a pot of mixed lentils. However, it would have been nice of them to create a number inside the pot so that I needn’t have worried at all.
Dr. Shinobu Ishihara created the colorblind test in 1916, during a stint in the Japanese Army. It’s rather ingenious. Militaries use lots of things to signal information between troops, and if they chose specific colors, many of the soldiers might not be able to see the information. These tests are still used today, too, in ophthalmology offices worldwide.
