Toothbrushes
The bristle toothbrush has a long history. The toothbrush has been around since 3000 BC, although it was in a highly rudimentary form. Early societies employed a “chew stick,” a large twig with a “chewed” end.
However, it was not until 1498 that the first bristle toothbrush was created in China. The toothbrush was composed of coarse hog hair obtained from the nape of the animal’s neck. Bamboo or bone was used to make the handle. In 1780, Willis Addis of Clerenald, England, invented improved bristle-enabled brushes for mass production.
