The ancient city of Bagan, Myanmar was once the capital of a great kingdom that ruled between the 9th and 13th centuries. Today, it holds the record for having the largest concentration of Buddhist monuments in existence.
This ancient city was once home to thousands of temples and monasteries built between the 9th and 11th centuries. It got its nickname, the Land of 3000 Pagodas, from the 3822 Buddhist temples, monasteries, and pagodas that dotted the landscape.
