Duke Snider – 1949 Bowman
Edwin “Duke” Snider was a beloved Centerfielder for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. His last years were spent with the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. Duke made his debut in 1947, coming in second only to Jackie Robinson in popularity. He hit 407 home runs and 1,333 runs batted in over the course of his career.
In 1980, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and became known as “The Silver Fox.” He made eight All-Star appearances, was ML Player of the Year in 1949, won two World Series crowns, and was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1980. In 2016, a 1949 Bowman card of him sold for $232,750! That’s enough to make anyone a Duke.
