Napoleon Lajoie – 1933 Goudey #106
The baseball career of Nap Lajoie, also known as Larry Lajoie and sometimes referred to as “The Frenchman,” spanned from 1896 to 1916 and included stints with the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics, and Cleveland Naps. He served four seasons as manager of the naps from 1905 until 1909. During his career, he won three batting titles and was regarded as one of the finest players in history.
This card was overlooked in the Goudey set released in 1933, and fans wanting to complete the set had to send away for it and contact Goudey. The card was subsequently sent to them separately with a paper clip, leaving marks on the delicate paper. This is part of what gives the card such high value; its price is currently $200,000.
