Ken Griffey Jr. – 1989 Upper Deck Rookie
The Seattle Mariners drafted Ken Griffey Jr. as a 19-year-old in 1989. For the duration of his career, he played for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, and returned to the Mariners for his final two years in Major League Baseball. He was voted MVP numerous times throughout his 22-year career, played in 13 All-Star Games, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016 after 20 years of eligibility.
The Kid’s first card was expected to become one of the most valuable cards in history. While it didn’t quite reach those heights, Griffey Jr. has emerged as one of baseball’s most famous figures, and one of these 1989 rookie cards may sell for around $400 today.
