David Kelly
On July 17, just two days after being summoned to appear before London’s parliamentary Intelligence and Security and Foreign Affairs Select committees, Welsh scientist and weapons expert David Kelly was found dead near his home. It came as a shock.
In July 2003, following the publication of their discussion, Dr. Kelly met with journalist Andrew Gilligan off the record to discuss the 2002 dossier on Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, which claimed that some of Iraq’s chemical and biological weapons could be ready for use in 45 minutes. According to the coroner’s findings, Kelly died by suicide following the publication of their conversation. However, many people believe there is more to the story than meets the eye and that Kelly’s death might have been due to foul play. In 2007, former Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker wrote a book called The Strange Death of David Kelly in which he claimed that Kelly was murdered. This may be a lesser-known conspiracy theory.
