Harold Wilson Conspiracy Theories
Another, perhaps less well-known conspiracy theory concerns former British Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson (1964 to 1970 and again from 1974 to 1976), who was the focus of another equally speculative claim. The claims run the gamut from Wilson being a Soviet spy (a charge which MI5 investigated and found to be false) to Wilson being the target of right-wing MI5 and military personnel’s treasonous intrigues (such as the Clockwork Orange plan). Wilson himself made several such allegations.
MI5 opened a file on Wilson and began investigating his supposed links to the KGB after he became Labour leader, continuing to look into him for several decades. They eventually declared that there was no evidence of ties between Wilson and the KGB or any indication that the Soviet Union had infiltrated the Labour Party.
