Trojan Horse Scandal
In 2013, the “Trojan Horse Scandal” (also known as “Operation Trojan Horse”) was uncovered, in which it was alleged that there had been a conspiracy to brainwash several Birmingham schools with an “Islamist” or “Salafist” mentality. This caused quite a stir in England.
Tahir Alam, the former head of the Park View Educational Trust, which ran three schools in Birmingham, produced a 72-page paper in 2007 for the Muslim Council of Britain that allegedly outlined a strategy for “Islamizing” secular public schools. According to the Clarke Report, there is no evidence that suggests poor governance or terrorism, radicalization, and violent extremism are problems in Birmingham schools. However, the report states that several people with influence in these institutions sympathize with or fail to oppose such views.
