The Centralia Fire Conspiracy
Centralia, Pennsylvania is a ghost town that conspiracy theorists believe is haunted. In an effort to get rid of the town’s rubbish, the residents set fire to a dump in 1962. However, the flames quickly spread into the coal mines located beneath the town. Eventually, Centralia became unsafe due to these fires, and most of its inhabitants left.
Nobody knows what caused the fire. Some claim that the government started the fire to drive people out of the town so it could extract valuable coal worth billions of dollars from beneath their homes. According to PennLive, a local Pennsylvania news source, any remaining coal underground is far less valuable than previously thought. The fire continues to burn today.
